Some parting goodbyes

It was a real joy to be welcomed into the home of Ariane.  We had an adventure everyday – even when it might appear to an outsider that there was nothing happening.  That’s because good things were  always happening inside our hearts.

It is really not possible for me to adequately compare traveling as a couple in unfamiliar surroundings (no matter how beautiful they may be) to traveling to a place where one is surrounded by such love and attention as we were shown by our friends in the Allgäu and earlier by our friend in Zurich.

We had a final dinner with Gloria and Ariane in nearby Lindau which is at the the south end of Lake Constance.

Before the dinner Ariana and I had strolled along the lake and noticed signs about the regular boat transportation that takes people to towns and cities around the lake.   Since our next planned visit was to Frieburg we  decided to buy a boat ticket that would take us north Friedrichstaffen.  From there we would take a bus through the Black Forest to scenic Freiburg to see our other friend Anda who we had also met in Assisi.  This was the first time on our trip we had used this mode of transport.  We had been assured that there would not be much in the way of waves on the lake.

The next day Daniel drove us to Lindau as it was on his way back to Switzerland and we sailed away from our friends.  We hope they visit us in New York or Coasta Rica.  Meanwhile we are left with wonderful memories.

I'm a recent writer and retired teacher. Married for more than half my life to Ariana I am content now to travel with her to warm places while snow swirls around our home in upstate NY where we live two houses away from my son, daughter-in-law and three grandchildren. Our daughter lives just a block away so our decision to travel is not without a consequence. However we have taken very few vacations in our married life so this journey, that starts in Costa Rica, is very new.
